It took awhile but I have finally made it to Cornwall, Penzance to be exact. My son and his family asked us to tag along on their Scotland trip and yes my heart belongs to Scotland too. (My heart seems to belong to alot of places, especially if there is water nearby.) David is the only one of my children I haven’t been to Scotland with so I thought why not and then I was struck by lightning – why not go a week earlier and pop over to Cornwall.
This was a big decision for me, I love to travel, but I also love to sleep and I get too excited to sleep on the plane most times. We left at 6:30 Canada time and landed at 6:30 UK time. Being tired and not knowing any better we grabbed a cab to Paddington Station. Big mistake, taxi was lovely, cab driver chatty but oh my gosh 100 pounds and took at least 45 minutes. The train would have been about 15 pounds and only took 16 minutes. Oh well, we made it. I had booked the 10:00 am train as I didn’t want to take a chance on missing it. Thankfully our ticket was transferable to we were able to get on the 8:03, and 5 hours later we were in Penzance, the last stop of about 25 stops lol.
Good and bad – our room wasn’t ready, but after all that sitting we went for a 5K walk and a Cornish Pasty, sitting on a monument overlooking the ocean. It was a little foggy and cool and still perfect. Back to the room and sound sleep 30 minutes later.

We are staying at the Beach House/Hotel Penzance Promenade, have a beautiful room with windows on both walls overlooking the Ocean and the town. So close we could throw a ball into the water lol. It came with a hot breakfast, so the next morning before we started our walk to St. Michael’s Mount we took full advantage of it.
I checked the tides, as the Mount is in the ocean, you can only get over at low tide. The day is sunny and 16, a perfect walking day. Hmmm maybe I should check to see if we need tickets as it can be quite busy. Are you kidding me – it’s closed on Saturdays. How ridiculous is that – well there is a good reason for it, there are 30 families who live on the grounds, and Saturday is family day so they can enjoy a day without people stumbling around. We decided to still do the walk and it was stupendous (what a great word). There is a boardwalk all the way, I decided about half way that I just had to go and put my feet in the water. I seriously think my spirit animal is a dog. I was so happy and actually frolicking amongst the waves. Also found a nice collection of rocks.

Even though we couldn’t get in, it was still very magical. How neat it must be to live here (other than during tourist season lol). Everyday the sun rises and the sun sets. I tend to see more sunsets than sunrises (not sure why lol). Even though it happens every day, I still have to stop and look. Tides are the same, they go in and they go out every day for every year the earth has been formed and definitely for the 70 years I have been on this planet. The whole walk to the Mount I was like wow look how far out the tide is. The beach just kept on going out into the ocean, lots of ripples, lots of I think clam or crab holes (they are a little freaky to walk over, I feel like I am stepping on their houses). My feet were so happy to meet the ocean and it was surprisingly warm. As we headed back, guess what, the tide started coming in. A few of the waves were a little icy feeling, but I still wasn’t getting out of the water. The boats that were sitting on the ocean floor were now floating, like WOW. I am witnessing this with my own eyes and I still can’t believe it LOL

The flowers were growing in cracks in the sea wall and there were actually palm trees in town. What a wonderful start to our adventure, 15K so far and the holiday has just begun.
