OK this was a hike, a big difference between a lot of my walks. I survived, I am sore, from my toes up to my nose. Over 17K and a whopping 111 floors. What a day
We took the bus from Penzance to the Minacks theatre stop. What a hoot. The road did not hold a car going both ways it was so narrow so we had to keep stopping to squeeze by cars, or someone had to backup into a driveway. Luckily we were on the top deck so we could see, as the road was more of a lane with a hedgerow about 6 feet tall. I gather the hedgerow is actually a rock wall that the flowers etc have grown overtop of lol.
Our first stop was in this beautiful little restaurant for a cheese and tomato sandwich to take with us (if I had of known the walk was so far and so long I might have bought a whole loave of bread lol). Anyway how funny, the owners used to live in Guelph and their son went to a school about 2 miles from our house in Aurora. We had a good chat with them. They retired and picked Cornwall to live in for 6 months and being a chatty couple opened up this lovely spot. Sandwich was great and they were lovely.

What a coastline, what beaches, what views. Porthcurno beach is right beside the Minacks theatre and might be one of the most lovely beaches I have every seen. Our first climb of the day was up to the Minacks, unfortunately we hadn’t prebought tickets so didn’t actually get into the theatre. Next time. The cliffs had so many boulders that looked like a good shove would bring them all down. I am sure that whoever designed the castles in Game of Thrones used some of these cliffs as models. Onward we went, thankfully there were so many picture spots or I may not have made it. It also means I am constantly wandering off the track. My All Trails tracker kept coming up with messages saying “you have left the track”. There were so many trails and so many lookout points. At one point I told my husband I would meet him at Land’s End eventually lol. He decided to stick with me. Big mistake lol. I was enjoying myself too much. The walk is considered “moderate” lol, with a warning to be extra caraeful if it is windy. There was a gale, I was actually on a rock taking a picture and the wind pushed me off it. Hats had to be tied down tight. At least 3 times Jim went racing after his. lol.

I never really thought I was a flower person, but the crazy variety of wild flowers that just grew in every nook and cranny was amazing. I did manage to catch the beginning of a beautiful thistle. Some of the pathways were 12 inches wide and 4 feet high of just flowers and hedges and some very prickly things. And who knew, there are Palm Trees and Aloe plants growing in Cornwall.

After about 5 hours we made it to Land’s End. In 1957 my mom and 2 brothers sailed away from England, on the Empress of England’s maiden voyage, to make a home in Canada. My mom loved to talk about Land’s End, so here I am today. She never expected to see England again, thankfully she managed a couple of trips back to see family.
