Our 1st Sicilian Wine Tour was a hit

Surprise, surprise the forecast calls for rain again. According to the locals most unusual for Sicily. The north side of the island wasn’t getting any, it seemed to be right over Catania and Taormina. We would sit on our balcony having our cappuccino in the morning saying “look Catania is getting hit again”. Let’s hope it stays there.

Today Jim is our chauffeur again and we decide to visit Gambino winery up in the hills. Gambino is up on the west side of Mt Etna (yes towards Catania and yes it is raining). Having a wine tasting and driving the roads of Mt Etna seems like a great way to spend a rainy day (especially if you aren’t driving). The wine was amazing and so was the lunch. Unfortunately we couldn’t get out for a walk because of the rain.  We did see another lovely part of the island with lots of little towns and windy roads.

When we got back to Taormina there hadn’t been any rain. Another wee nap and then we are off for dinner. Tonight we are stopping at “Mama Rosa’s”. There are street singers wandering the alleys tonight, the reason we stopped here is that the acoustics are so spectacular that you feel like you are in an opera house.  The restaurant is tiered and we were sitting on the top tier looking down the alley/street.  Lots of pedestrian traffic to watch, dogs, people and children dancing and of course the neighbourdhood cat to feed tidbits too.  Another wonderful night.  So far my favourite restaurant.
